At 11:40 a.m. yesterday I explained to a sweet 68-year-old that her A1c was 7.1 and our cutoff is 7.0, then opened my ‘Phone Screen Script v14’ like it could magically turn back time. What’s your funniest save-the-journey move when eligibility nopes out at the last minute — Epic SlicerDicer hail mary, alternate trial handoff to keep them in the pipeline, or just bribing fate with the good clinic coffee?
When they hit ‘7.1 vs 7.0’ at 11:40, I pop ‘SlicerDicer’ to find one viable sister study and do a warm handoff with a two-line eligibility blurb, then set a 6-week Epic reminder to recheck if they want back in; keeps them in the pipeline… Caveat: it takes an extra 5 minutes and only works if your PI is cool with cross-referrals.
At 11:40 with “7.1 vs 7.0,” I call the lab for a same-sample re-run before the tube gets tossed; I’ve had it come back 6.9–7.0 from analytic variance, way faster than opening Phone Screen Script v14 again. If the sponsor won’t allow a re-run, I book a next-morning fasting glucose if the protocol lists it as an alternate, otherwise I do @henry7246’s warm handoff.
